Thiess recently bolstered its commitment to Indigenous representation by participating in the committee for Brisbane’s First Nations board experience program.
Launched in 2023 in partnership with Aurecon, the program is designed to elevate Indigenous voices in corporate governance by providing participants with hands-on board experience.
Through active participation in committee meetings and engagement with experienced directors, the program aims to empower Indigenous leaders and build pathways for their advancement in corporate leadership.
Thiess asset services and decarbonisation engineer and Kalkadoon man Alex Dyball joined the program as a participant, contributing his perspective on Indigenous representation and gaining deeper insights into board operations.
“Participating is not only about personal development; it’s about reshaping the corporate landscape by embedding Indigenous perspectives,” he said.
“This program has given me a greater understanding of how corporate committees operate and how we can create pathways for future Indigenous leaders to represent and be heard at the board table.”
Dyball’s work with Indigenous representation goes beyond the program, as he serves on the Australian Network of Mining Engineering Educators (ANMEE) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander reference sub-committee, an organisation dedicated to incorporating Indigenous knowledge into mining engineering curricula.
Recently, he was invited to join the Queensland Resources Council’s (QRC) Indigenous Affairs Committee, further highlighting his influence in advocating for Indigenous voices.
The First Nations board experience program highlights Thiess’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive corporate environment, one where Indigenous voices are integral to decision-making.
