Orion progresses with internal reviews for Okiep DFS

Providing an update on the timing of the release of the definitive feasibility study (DFS) on the Flat Mines Project, part of the Okiep copper project, in the Northern Cape, JSE- and ASX-listed Orion Minerals reports that the company’s board and partners are progressing the internal review process.

The company says it is anticipated that the results of the Okiep DFS will be released during the last week of March, concurrent with the release of Orion’s flagship Prieska copper/zinc mine DFS.

As previously reported in Mining Weekly, Orion Minerals’ work programmes during the interim period to December 31, 2024, focused on the progression of the DFS for the company’s flagship Prieska copper/zinc mine and Okiep copper project, in South Africa, are both scheduled for release in the March quarter.

The company is targeting first production from its key development projects in 2026, with the goal of ramping up copper production to more than 50 000 t/y by the end of the decade.
