Consolidating its leadership in the scenario of the energy transition in Chile and the world, ENGIE Energía Chile (EECL) has signed an important contract to supply energy to Albemarle, the global chemical products company and leading player in lithium production, which currently has the authorization to produce from brine 82,000 t/y per year of technical and battery grade lithium carbonate over the next 27 years in Chile.
With this contract, which amounts to 180 GWh/ y, Albemarle will supply its operations in the industrial sector of La Negra in Antofagasta and part of its extractive operations located in the Salar de Atacama. Axel Leveque, General Manager of ENGIE Energy Chile stated: At ENGIE we have proposed to be leaders in the energy transition and to be committed to progress in harmony, which is why we are working on a plan that considers our environment and all the actors.
He also added: today we take another important step, after incorporating Albemarle, the world’s leading lithium producer, into our client portfolio and with which we will establish a long-term partner relationship and offer flexible solutions that will allow us to optimize our energy consumption.
Stephen Elgueta, General Manager Albemarle, said that Albemarle has a commitment to the development of the New Lithium Mining, so this agreement allows us to take a step of great relevance to produce with clean energy, giving more value to our productive process, highly sustainable, as important as how much to produce is how it is done, this includes our relationship with the environment and its protection.
